Breast Cancer Institute Breakfast 2013

This year we celebrated our 9th year of working with the Breast Cancer Institute at Westmead Hospital. The Design section have been producing Hope posters for the annual charity breakfast celebrations providing inspirational artworks and imagery of patients, doctors, nurses and support staff associated with the Institute. The breakfast is a fund raiser for the Institute and it is also a platform for raising awareness of research and treatment developments.

This year again the the students provided a great range of posters to decorate the breakfast event. The posters show many of the attendees at the breakfast so there is always a great interest in what creative designs students can do with images of people and sunflowers to promote Hope.

Again, Helen Clare and Anita Nau-Kleinmann worked tirelessly to make sure all posters were completed on time and ready for display. One of our Graphic Design students, Shayne Cocks, was the official photographer for the breakfast and was kept busy throughout the breakfast and then after taking photos of people for next years Hope posters.

Interior Design Students meet celebrity at Bunnings 2013

On Thursday 24th October evening, Shirley Gagin and Joanna Nestoroski took a group of students from Advanced Diploma Interior Design, Diploma Interior Decoration and Visual Merchandising to an even held at Bunnings Seven Hills where TV celebrity Shayna Blaze and the Interior Designer from 'The Block' and 'Selling Houses Australia' was presenting and demonstrating interior decoration tips.

The students immensely enjoyed the very well organised and very popular event. Despite being packed and everyone wanting to have a personal chat and a photo with Shayna, our students still got the chance to meet Shaina in person, have a quick chat with her as well as a photo.

Design involved in Penrith to "Make my park Pop", October 2013

The Make My Park Pop project was officially launched on October 21st 2013. Ken Morgan, Graphic Design and Visual Merchandising Teacher at NADC,  took part in a Penrith Council initiative call ‘Make My Park Pop’ on 19th September to design and instigate community spaces around the Penrith area. Jo Ernsten from Visual Arts Teacher NADC also participated in the consultation with Ken. The concept designs produced by the participants produced in the workshop were very well received by Council. The trial park fronts Henry and High streets in down town Penrith and stretches toward Riley Street.

"This park gives our CBD a more attractive, greener gateway - somewhere for locals and visitors to meet and relax or enjoy activities, and discover what’s on offer from a unique mix of eateries, shops and businesses.

The park was designed by community and business representatives, designers, creatives and student architects at an intensive workshop on 19 September. They were guided by world renowned urban tactician Mike Lydon and place-making specialists Place Partners and The Lot. The design was then presented to a public workshop that evening."
