Nepean Design success Southern Cross Packaging 2012

Southern Cross Package Design Awards are held each year and are open to all Australian tertiary students who are studying graphic or industrial design. Students are provided with "real life" industry set briefs that ask them to design solutions for current packaging issues. The briefs are set by the sponsors who have made every effort to ensure students are challenged, yet have the support to complete the briefs with the guidance of Technical Contacts. The challenge for students is to be creative, design beyond the boundaries of what is currently available but most importantly learn about the world of packaging.

At NADC we incorporate these awards into our teaching program and have all Graphic Design Diploma students research and present a body of work according to their selected brief. A committee of teaching staff review all entries and determine the best 10 to submit to the competition. This year we were very happy with the variety of ideas and the high level of work produced by our students. We congratulate our two award winners Charlotte Curan-Stevens who was awarded a Bronze for her Can Do Can & Ellen Morales for her Twist'n'Lick Lollypop.

Our Bronze winner, Charlotte Curan-Stevens will have the opportunity to apply to The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) for a scholarship to complete their “Certificate in Packaging” course.  This course, completed by distance learning (online), with tutorial support, provides understand of principles, properties and packaging processes that the winner can apply to their future career. The AIP Certificate is highly regarded by many companies and represents an excellent opportunity for any studying wanting to enter the packaging design field.

Design workshop in primary school lots of fun

In Term 2, 2012 a simple introduction to Graphic Design was given to the students of Class 2/3A at Faulconbridge Public School, Faulconbridge by Acting Head Teacher Design, Sandi Lucock. Students were given the opportunity to create a logo for themselves based on their name and then made badges out of their designs. As you will see they created some really creative work and had a lot of fun in the process. Many future Designers amongst them.
