Lea Hicks from OZWAC (Australian
Women and Children’s Research Foundation) came to speak to our Graphic
Design Advanced Diploma students at the start of the year to brief them
on promotional material required for the up and coming OZWAC Ball. The
ball is an major annual event for OZWAC that raises much needed funds
for further research and support for the organisation.
Our students took
on the brief to design the e-flyer, flyer, newspaper ads, posters, banners,
invitations, programs as well as video and website designs. The design process,
client communication, and final designs for all of the elements were
embedded into the assessments for the units within the Graphic Design
Advanced Diploma.
It
was a great opportunity for the students to gain actual first-hand
experience of working with a real client with client needs and
deadlines. Two teachers where involved in the process, Sandi Lucock and Craig
Daalmeijer-Power with Craig taking on the majority of the project
management with the students. The whole experience was a great learning
opportunity for the students and offered a good insight into the
industry.

Living in an information-seeking society, we are surrounded by words and pictures. It is the task of the graphic designer to research, analyze, organize and make artistic order out of chaos.
