Tony Flowers from Design presents at Children's Festival of Moving Stories November 2014

One of our great Design teachers, Tony Flowers, featured in an article regarding his involvement with the Sydney Writer's Festival to present the Children's Festival of Moving Stories. Tony will be entertaining children with his amazing drawings at various events across Western Sydney area from November 14. Well done Tony, this is great.

Design displays work at 2014 Hope Breakfast for Breast Cancer Institute Westmead

This year we celebrated our 8th year of working with the Breast Cancer Institute at Westmead Hospital. The Design section have been producing Hope posters for the annual charity breakfast celebrations providing inspirational artworks and imagery of patients, doctors, nurses and support staff associated with the Institute. The breakfast is a fund raiser for the Breast Cancer Institute and it is also a platform for raising awareness of research and treatment developments.

This year again the the students provided a great range of posters to decorate the breakfast event. The posters show many of the attendees at the breakfast so there is always a great interest in what creative designs students can do with images of people and sunflowers to promote Hope.

Again, Helen Clare and Anita Nau-Kleinmann worked tirelessly to make sure all posters were completed on time and ready for display. One of our ex Graphic Design students, Shayne Cocks, was the official photographer for the breakfast and was kept busy throughout the breakfast and then after taking photos of people for next years Hope posters. Thank you so much Helen, Anita and Shayne.

Design participated in 2014 Speed Careering Day at Doonside Technology High School

On Monday 27th October, Karen Mulvihill-Wray and Joanna Nestoroski from Design NADC participated in the 2014 Speed Careering Day at Doonside Technology High School. Approximately 150 students spent 10 minutes in groups of 10 finding out from Karen and Joanna about all Design course offerings, pathways from Certificate III to Degree and career opportunities in all Design disciplines.

Karen introduced the students to the Design courses at NADC at the start of the day in a quick presentation on stage and explained what activities she and Joanna would be doing and what information the students would be gaining.

As an appreciation for their efforts, Karen and Joanna where given a certificate and a bunch of flowers.

Design presents at Youth Eco Summit 2014

The Youth Eco Summit has been recognised by United Nations University as one of 6 Global flagship projects in Youth Engagement and Capacity Building and once again, Design had a great presence at the summit in 2014. Coleen English-Thomas represented NADC to display all our Design courses and demonstrate environmentally friendly design making processes through hands on demonstrations and activities that students really appreciated.

Thousands of schools and university students attended the event that was launched by the NSW Environment Minister, The Hon. Robert Gordon Stokes. The summit took place over two days Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October at Newington Armory Theatre, Jamieson Street, Silverwater.

NADC's first Bachelor of Applied Management (Design) Graduants 2014

On Thursday 2 October 2014, three of the first graduants of the NADC's Bachelor of Applied Management (Design) received their awards for their achievements. In attendance were five of their dedicated teachers.

The students have made significant achievements at Nepean Arts and Design Centre having completed Diplomas of Graphic Design and Interior Design followed by Advanced Diploma in the same Design disciplines. Elaine completed Graphic Design while Jenna and Catherine both completed Interior Design.

All students of the program entered the final year of the Federation University degree having achieved the Diploma, Advanced Diploma and required work experience and professional practice prior to entry. The University courses completed included a combination of Business and Design units that have prepared the students for professional roles within their chosen Design fields.

NADC Open Day 2014

Nepean college is having an Open Day on 17 September 2014. Events will be taking place in every section of the college for future students to see classes operating, talk about career and course options, view student work and participate in college activities.

 

Nepean Arts and Design Centre will be having a number of activities as mentioned below for future students in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Visual Merchandising, Interactive Digital Media, Design Fundamentals, Fine Arts and Photography. Please come along and be a part of the activities.

 

Soundlapse, Interactive Digital Media collagoration with Penrith Council and NADC 2014

Soundlapse is an immersive audio tour through the heart of Queen St St Marys and is this year’s contribution to the Queen St Riches & Textures Initiative.  It was officially launched on Wednesday the 3^rd  September at the Memorial Hall St Marys in front of a small crowd of council dignitaries, locals and TAFE staff and students.

 

The launch culminates the impressive work of the Interactive Digital Media students from NADC (Nepean Arts and Design Centre), who researched, interviewed, recorded and edited the documentary style stories for the app and website.  The app guides visitors to special areas of Queen St where it plays the audio story developed by the students. TAFE teacher Andrew Wagstaffe developed the app, and it is currently available on the Google Play store and soon to be released on the Apple App Store.
